Capture information from newly installed drive
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello,

A little problem I have is that RB does not pick up the contents of a newly attached external hard drive. It means I need to restart to RB. Obviously, a very little problem, but I wonder if others have found a solution?

Yours till the cows,

R.

Thanks for asking.

What do you mean by "does not pick up the contents of a newly attached external hard drive"?

The external drive, a drobo, has folders with various media. When attached while RB is running, registers it as <empty>. Restarting RB then picks up all the folder in the drobo specified in the particular RB menu.

I should further clarify. In my custom menu I have specified folder in this drive. The drive is often off (it is mostly used for backup purposes only).

However, I have just checked now. Magically, RB has found and lists the folder correctly. How embarrassing. All I can say is that in the past this has not been the case, so that my practice has been to restart RB.

Thanks for the info.

Remote Buddy "pre-renders" menu contents for better performance. That means that, for file/folder items, Remote Buddy will only inspect the file/folder element when you _enter_ the respective menu. And really only then. It doesn't do it again when you descend deeper into the menu and then navigate up to the level of the previous menu containing these items.

Therefore, when you attach a drive to your Mac that you're referencing from a menu in Remote Buddy, in order for Remote Buddy to look at that menu items again, please navigate out of the respective menu and then enter it again. That should always work.

I think I understand. Do you mean that when I attached the drive, I should then go to the drive entry in the RB menu, disregard if it registers <empty>, and go away and come back again a little later, when all should be working well?
