Re: Too bad Front Row Access is so complex

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello Jerome,

thanks for asking.

You can

1) customize Remote Buddy's menu (=> just adjust the layout to fit
your specific needs) or
2) button mapping (=> Preferences > Hardware > _Your Remote Here_ >
Global Mapping > Select "Activate Front Row" for the button you want
to map it to)

to access Front Row with as few button presses as you want - even one
will be sufficient, if that's what you are looking for.

Regarding the order, you should generally use the contact form
regarding questions with that. Normally, you receive your license
code within five minutes after placing the order. Your case was
extremely special and definately unique, as PayPal's IPN mechanism,
which notifies the IOSPIRIT system about new payments, did not return
a "VERIFIED" back when the system asked it for a verification.

Basically Instant Payment Notification (IPN) works like this:

1) The PayPal server sends the IOSPIRIT server a HTTP request with
the data of the payment.
2) The IOSPIRIT server asks the PayPal server for a confirmation of
the data it was sent to be safe against abuse and hacking attempts
from outside.
3) The PayPal server either returns a "VERIFIED" or "UNVERIFIED"
status string.

In your case, it just did not return any string (so, neither
"VERIFIED" nor "UNVERIFIED"), which is neither documented nor has it
ever happened before in thousands of PayPal transactions to date. The
system nonetheless handled it properly by sending me a notification
email I read a few hours back asking me to manually check whether
this transaction actually took place. I logged into the IOSPIRIT
PayPal account, had a look at the PayPal statement archive and found
the transaction, then authorized it as a valid payment in the system
- at which point you should finally have received your license code.

Sorry for the long waiting time - caused by a technical error at
PayPal's IPN and prolonged by me taking a week off.

Regarding status mails: the IOSPIRIT Store does also handle shipping
physical goods, including tracking, preorders of yet-to-released
products, and a lot of asynchronous payment methods such as bank
transfer. That does raise the bar significantly regarding the
situations it needs to handle and cover. It's certainly a whole lot
more complex under the hood and in the number of possibilities a
customer gets to place and adjust his order than a simple PayPal-only
shop.

So you receive a notification when:

1) your order was received by the web server (=> so you know it was
actually received)

2) a mail with the web account created for you with your first order
(=> so you get access to the many additional services on this website)

3) an mail with payment details if your payment method required it
(=> so you can pay the invoice and your order can actually hsip)

4) a mail that says that your order is now in the works (=> letting
you know your payment was received)

5) a mail with your invoice (=> so you have something to hand in for
tax if you need it)

6) your license code

Each of these mails serves a (legal) purpose beyond just order
tracking and many of them are required by German laws that IOSPIRIT
has to conform to. Joining them all together in one mail would i.e.
bear the risk of violating some of these laws.

Hope that helps. Please don't hesitate to contact me, if you have
further problems or questions.

Best regards,
Felix
