thanks for the interesting link. I didn't know that utility before.

The latest version of iPodDisk seems to allow you browsing by Albums, 
Artists, Genres and Playlists though (at least that's what it does 
with the iPod Shuffle I tested it with). You should be able to use 
the regular Remote Buddy file browser to browse through the folders, 
then use i.e. Quicktime Player to play individual tracks.
