Re: Problem with VLC and the Movie Library folder structure

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi Felix and thanks for your answer!

Yes I am using the latest version of VLC i.e. 0.8.6a.

However, I have continued troubleshooting and I have found something interesting depending on where the Movie Library folder structure is placed.

If the Movie Library folder structure is placed on the internal harddrive or on an external USB harddrive it works fine to open files via “Movie Library” under VLC in the RemoteBuddy interface.
Nevertheless, and this is where it get’s interesting, if the same Movie Library folder structure is placed in an image file (that is mounted on the desktop) VLC will display the error message shown above. It does not matter whether the image file is a regular image (i.e. .dmg) or a sparseimage. And it does not matter whether the image file is placed on the internal drive or the external harddrive.

Files from the Movie Library folder structure placed on an image (dmg or sparseimage) work fine if they are opened from within the VLC application itself (i.e. outside the RemoteBuddy interface) and they (the DVD-rips i.e.) also work if they are played with Apple DVD Player in the RemoteBuddy interface.

To summarize: this problem only occurs if one wants to play a movie file, placed on an image, from “Movie Library” in VLC via the RemoteBuddy interface.

I hope this information will give you an idea how to fix the problem.
Keep up the good job!
Mats
