This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I still have not been able to narrow down the bug. Currently, everything is working again, and I am not sure why. 
When it is not working, activating Apple Remote's menu button will cause iTunes to exit Full-Screen Mode and diable the 'Rate Tracks' section in RB's menu overlay.

I'll see if I can consistently reproduce the problem over the weekend
