I don't know about the Wii Game Console's output resolution, but the 
effective, regular TV resolution is usually close to 640 x 480 - or 
about 720 x 576 including overscan - and thus smaller than the 
resolution of the Wii Remote's sensor, while computer screens today 
normally have a resolution of 1280 x 1024 and higher (and thus higher 
than the resolution of the Wii Remote).

If you equally distribute 1024 physical points over 640 display 
points, you have more physical points than your display has. If 
however, you try to distribute the same 1024 physical points over 1280 
and more display points, you have no other choice than to use one 
physical point for more than one display point.
