How about using the held +/- keys for the rating? They are unused 
at the moment. Would be great!

 
In fact a good idea. While this is perfectly possible from a 
developer point of view, I also see the disadvantage with adding hold 
status for the +/- buttons for i.e. increasing/decreasing volume. 
You'd have to click, click, click instead of pressing it once until 
volume fits your needs. Yet, I'll think about it.
