Feature Request for Movie Library
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I was wondering in the next update if it would be possible for the movie library to search for .mp4 files as well as video ts, or if there would be a way for the user to personalize what type of movie files it would search for.

Thanks

Edit: Busy: signal is now gone and works amazinly well!!! It searches all of my externals and the internal and puts them in alpha order and it is amazing!

With that some enhancements could come from a larger amount of screen shown to do this, larger text so it would be easier to read further away, as well as displaying longer titles.

This is a huge improvement (now if you could add .avi, and .mp4 to a possibily for spotlight to search for under VLC that would be a huge improvement and make the mac media center that much closer to be being perfect.

Thanks for all of your hard work on making this great product

Hi Felix

I agree with Tim. Those features would be nice.

Hi All

Remote buddy movie library allready works with mp4, avi and m4v. Just make a directory named with the films name , under that you have a directory with the name VIDEO_TS with the media file. Placing a movie poster i the film name directory named cover.jpg.
Ex:
Clerks 2\VIDEO_TS\Clerks 2.mp4
Clerks 2\cover.jpg

Regards Anders

Hello Anders,

thanks for sharing this!

Just a small correction: the graphics file can have any name though,
as long as it ends with gif, jpeg, jpg or png. This i.e. allows you
to drag and drop covers right from a website without the need for any
further actions.

Felix

How about adding in the VLC behaviour the possibility of browsing a specific folder ("Movies" for example) and showing only movie files.

For example someone could have a structure like:

Movies/
TV/
TV/24 - Season 1
TV/24 - Season 2
Trailers/
etc...

Something similar was available in Sofa Control and was very handy...

Thank you for the great product!

I would like the possibility to put the movie library out in the root of the menu, not under VLC.

Hello Davide,

thanks for sharing the idea. The Movie Library as can currently be
seen in Remote Buddy is actually only the top of the ice berg and a
special case of a feature that is not yet exposed to the user in
general ;-) ..

Expect to see more functionality in future releases ..

Best regards,
Felix

Hello Anders,

thanks for letting me know.

I can only give you the same answer as Davide, though. There is more
under the hood than is currently apparant. :-)

Stay tuned.

This doesn't work for me with 1.8.1 on 10.5.1: RB appears to try to play the mp4 with DVD Player, rather than QuickTime, and I get a "media type not supported" error from RB

Any ideas?

DVD Player does not support playback of MP4s.

The "VIDEO_TS-for-movie-files" trick only works with the VLC player.
