Is the new Sony Bluetooth Remote supported by RB?

Thanks, Alex

Hello Alex,

thanks for asking. Not currently, but possibly in a future release -
depending on what remote you mean (the Sixaxis?) ..

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

Thanks for your reply. I am referring to Sony's new remote Blu-ray Remote for PlayStation 3:

I hope you're able to add support for this proct soon!!!

Thanks again.

I believe this would be the same or very similar to adding support for the Sixaxis controller since they are both Bluetooth.

I would prefer the sixaxis support over a TV remote since the virtual mouse would work much better with an analog stick rather than a digital button. Plus, 17 buttons is way more than you'll ever need for controlling just about any app.

Hello Alex,

thanks for sharing the link with me.

I wasn't aware that this remote exists, before. I've added it to the
ToDo list and will watch out for it as soon as the PS3 launches in
Germany.

Best regards,
Felix

Hello Craig,

the major problem with both of these remotes - be it the blu-ray or
the sixaxis one - will be to find out how they operate and what
protocol they are using. I expect them to be much simpler than the
one used by the Wiimote, though.

Best regards,
Felix

I just want to add that I am also interested in ths remote. Sure, it has many buttons, is quite large, and black, but is is only $25 and bluetooth, so I don't need an additional receiver dangling around the USB ports.
A user on YouTube reports that he succesfully connected the Sony Playstation 3 Bluetooth Blueray Remote (what a name!) with his linux pc.

Maybe that helps?

Actually, I would like to see a variation on this.

I would like to see if RB can act as a "bridge" between an IR remote (Harmony) and the BT transmitter (PS3 remote).

The logic is that I have a "master remote" that I would like to control all my home theater items with. My Harmony 880 remote doesn't do Bluetooth...only IR. So, if RB can ingest the IR command and "map it" to an outbound BT PS3 command, this would allow me to control all my components from one remote, if all items can be properly mapped.

Hope this makes sense!

Bluetooth is much more complex than IR. While IR remotes send simple
patterns, a Bluetooth device is - remotely - comparable with the
complexity of a USB device with vendor, product ID and serial,
different communication channels, options and techniques, connection
negotiation, service discovery and offering, etc.

With the current Bluetooth stack of OS X I don't see a way for a Mac
to mimic a Sony BD Remote so that it could be detected as such by a PS
3. It sure should be possible to advertise such a service, but the
machine itself would still introduce itself as a Mac and not as a
remote control.

Felix
