This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I am running into problems using Remote Buddy (RM) in OS 10.4.9. What is happening is that sometimes when I go to initiate RM it also initiates Front Row (FR). As I navigate through the RB menu's I can see in the background FR also being run. Other issues are that when going into the FR menu I can only select every other menu item it will skip as if I pushed the navigation button twice. Any suggestions?

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Larry, thanks for your email. A handful of users have reported this issue and I'm looking into it.  Apple seems to have changed quite a bit of things regarding how they  handle the Apple Remote. For now, the solution seems to be to deactivate and then reactivate  the Apple Remote in the menu. Just out of curiosity: do you start Remote Buddy during system  startup as well? Or by yourself - and only afterwards? Best regards,  Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I do start RB at login. However I have found it odd that even if I quit and then restart RB it will work for a little while and then the problem will happen again. There does not seem to be any reason other than maybe something that is happening behind the scenes causing this...

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Larry, thanks for letting me know. This is most definately something that is  happening behind the scenes - but not Remote Buddy's. I have seen  that Apple has made changes to how the remote is handled in Mac OS X  and hiding this functionality more actively. The most visible part of  this is that rcd.app does no longer need to run to invoke Front Row  and alike. Why they do this I don't know. There is no technical  reason for this as far as I can see. Since I haven't been able to reproduce the problem on either my  MacBook Pro or iMac Core Duo, could you please send me - a System Profiler profile (just load it up and select save, please  use the SPX format)  - the output of "ps auxww" executed in a shell/Terminal.app  - the output of "kextstat" executed in a shell/Terminal.app to info @ <thiscompany> com, so I can have a look at what is running  and loaded on your system and compare it to mine? Thanks in advance! Best regards,  Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. A few more questions: - did you use "Software Update" or the combo installer to install the  10.4.9 update?  - do you use Fast User Switching?  - what does md5 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework/  Versions/A/BezelServices output on your system? Thanks in advance! Best regards,  Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I used the combo updater, no fast user switching. Please clarify what you would like me to do with the md5 directory info... Is it a terminal command?

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Larry, thanks for mailing the info. Regarding the md5 command: yes, it's a terminal command that creates  a checksum on a private framework of Apple. I do then know which version of the framework you have installed  (there seem to be at least two planted into user's system with the  10.4.9 updater - probably depending on how they installed the update). Best regards,  Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Reason I asked was because typing the command into terminal doesn't create a resulted output. I am copy and pasting the exact command from your post. When I paste it this is what I get returned: Gfather:~ jar$ md5 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework/  md5: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework/: Is a directory  Gfather:~ jar$ Versions/A/BezelServices Can you double check that this is the correct command? |

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Larry, thanks for letting me know. Both of these lines should be one joined  line actually .. so it ends in ... BezelServices.framework/Versions/A/BezelServices Thanks in advance! Apple Mail has the habit to break lines in my outgoing mail. Btw, if  anybody knows how to stop Mail from doing that, I'd be most  grateful. :-) Best regards,  Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I'm not happy about Apple breaking the HID layer of OS X either -  especially as I can't see what changes or improvements apart from a  security fix were made to that part of the OS in 10.4.9. That  security fix seems totally unrelated to the problem at hand and no  other HID device seems to be affected. All I can say is that I do know the fix and I continue working on its  implementation. I'll have to ask for your patience until RC2 is  finished and everything in it works reliably. Please understand that I won't comment further on this issue as all I  have to say about it has already been said and repeating myself does  only prolong the waiting time for the fix. Best regards,  Felix

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hi Felix,  I've been experimenting this issue as well, lately. But even with version 1.0 Preview 15b the problem stays: When I press the menu button on the Apple Remote, both RB and FR activate.  I was suggested to deactivate FR from the login items as temporary solution, what do you think?  Thank you very much and congratulations for your great job!  J.

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hello Jacopo, thanks for asking. The problem is solved since Preview 14 / RC2 with the Remote Buddy  kernel extension. Please make use of the Remote Buddy Setup Wizard to  install it and permanently solve the problem. The RB Kernel Extension is the only clean, reliable, system conform  way I know of and it does not mess around, remove, move and/or modify  your OS X system files and configuration. It's a true, clean  solution, not a hack. It even exclusively gives you access to  otherwise not accessible features of your receiver/remote. More info regarding these features in the FAQ. Other "solutions" or "fixes" that have been brought to my attention  actually aren't. A solution for me does have to solve a problem  without creating new problems. That's the whole point with solutions ;-) So, you can safely ignore them. Best regards,  Felix
