Movie Folder - Request
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Would it be possible to have the Movie Folder option not tied to Dvd Player?

Meaning that the folder can also be populated with mpeg files or whatever else video type file (triggering the associated app when selected).

I would also be glad if the image that is associated to each movie could be displayed a bit larger on screen.

Thank you,

Luca

Hello Luca,

thanks for asking.

The Movie Library also supports VLC. Which of them is being used
depends on which Behaviour's content menu you enter - or, for the AJAX
Remote - which one you selected to be used in the preferences (VLC is
preferred over DVD Player by default).

Best regards,
Felix

Thank you for your answer,

I tried installing VLC, but I still only see video_ts folders in the
movie library and not any other video type file I might have in
there. Is there a way to increase the size of the displayed image
(dvd cover)?

Thank you

Thanks for asking.

As this question is coming up again and again, I've decided to now add
a FAQ entry on this. Please find it below.

The size of the cover display can not be changed currently.

--- FAQ ---

Can I also add DivX/AVI/MOV files to the built-in movie library and
not just VIDEO_TS folders? (FAQ015E0200)

Yes. All you need to do is to install VLC and organize your files in a
given folder structure. It's also possible to add covers then. If, for
example, you want to add the file MyMovie.avi, the folder structure
should look like this:

Title of my movie/VIDEO_TS/MyMovie.avi
Title of my movie/File with Cover.jpg

You can add movies that are split up into several files the same way.
The folder structure then looks like this:

Title of my movie/VIDEO_TS/MyMovie part 1.avi
Title of my movie/VIDEO_TS/MyMovie part 2.avi
Title of my movie/VIDEO_TS/MyMovie part 3.avi
Title of my movie/File with Cover.jpg

The names of the movie- and coverfiles are freely choosable - you only
need to make sure the suffix fits the format of the file. Supported
formats for cover files include JPEG, PNG and GIF.

In Remote Buddy's menu, you can then start playback of your movies
complete with existing covers in the context menu of the VLC Behaviour.

it would be really useful if you could still just add movie folders to your library without putting everything in a VIDEO_TS folder. For example, when checking remote buddy on my ipod touch, it would be nice to be able to click on the movies thing, then choose my 'Movies' or 'TV Shows' folder, then on 'Futurama,' then on 'Season 1,' then on 'Episode 5.' The way it is now, I cannot have nested folders like this in my Movies library, so I have all of Season 1 in a VIDEO_TS folder, and i have to keep on skipping through episodes until i get to the one I want. The only other option would be to make a separate VIDEO_TS folder for every episode, but that would make my Movies library unwieldy. Does that make sense?

If you want to directly browse your movie files folder, all you need
to do is to add that folder via drag and drop to the context menu of
the VLC / QT Player / DivX Player / .. Behaviour in Preferences > Menu.
