Problem with the new release 1.10
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
After updating to 1.10, as RB launches, all the menus are greyed-out, and the services don't start. I can't access preferences or anything. It's completely unusable. Also, the RB menu shows "About NewApplication" and "Quit NewApplication".

Does anyone know what's going on?

Hello Miguel,

this sounds to me like you updated to 1.10 and then started an older
release that throws an exception when trying to load settings from the
newer version.

Please check:

- which version was actually started (=> right-click on the icon in
the dock, choose "Show in Finder") ..

- .. and please also have a look into Console.app > console.log for
error messages at the time this occurs.

That would be most interesting at that point.

Best regards,

Thanks for the reply. I checked for the version number as you suggested and it's 1.10. I also tried erasing preferences but that didn't work. Here's the console output:

4/24/08 1:29:47 PM Remote Buddy[7761] *** -[NSCFData UTF8String]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x775dbd0

Thanks for the info. Looks like it'll be hard to find since UTF8String
is invoked all over the place :-/

What preference files did you delete? Any left over in ~/Library/
Preferences/com.iospirit.*?

Please also send me a System Profile to info@iospirit... Create it by
starting System Profiler.app (found in /Applications/Utilities) and
choose "Save as.." from the "File" menu.

Thanks in advance.

Can you share the solution because I am having the same problem. I had to reinstall earlier release just to get anything working again.

Are you running version 1.10 or 1.10.1?

If it's 1.10.1, please provide me with some diagnostic information:

1) An ioreg-dump. Create it by entering

ioreg -w0 -l >~/Desktop/ioregDump.txt

into Terminal.app (found in /Applications/Utilities). That creates an
ioreg-dump file named ioregDump.txt on your desktop.

2) A System Profile. Create it by starting System Profiler.app (found
in /Applications/Utilities) and choose "Save as.." from the "File" menu.

Please send these two files to info [_at_] iospirit [.d0t.] com.
