Multiple Speakers [1.10]
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
When I try to select a second speaker via Ajax remote, I can watch the Remote Speakers window open and the check mark being made, but it disappears again immediately. If I enter the check in the second speaker's box manually, it sticks.

Any idea why this might be happening?

Did you switch to "Multiple" speaker mode before?

Do you have speakers attached to that AirPort Express?

Can you give me a few details of your setup (=> or send a system
profile to info [a] iospirit [.dot.] com - it says more than thousand
words ;-) ?

Yes, I used to connect to multiple speakers manually - so I was excited to see RB offering the option via the remote.

There are speakers on the Airport Express. I am also using Apple TVs and they have the same problem.

I just tried deselecting a speaker that had been manually selected and that had the same problem - the check mark disappeared momentarily and then came back again.

The set-up is a Power PC G4 Mac Mini 1.42GHz with 1GB RAM with the iTunes -7.6.2 (9) - library on a 500GB external drive. OS is 10.5.2 (9C7010)

- I just looked at adding a speaker to the computer default there is another behaviour that is different to the original description.

The Remote Speaker window opens
The check appears in the box
The window closes
The Remote Speaker window re-opens
The check mark disappears
The window stays open

(It's almost like the button is being pressed twice in this version, but I have checked several times to make sure that I am not doing so.)

Thanks for the detailed description.

The bug is addressed by 1.10.1 (now available).

Thanks Felix. That fixes it.

Sorry to be really picky, but I just tried something that amounts to a forced error - unchecking all speakers. That puts up a modal dialog that will cause problems.

This only happens if the computer is the last speaker to be deselected. iTunes' own logic will revert to the computer as default if one of the other speakers is deselected last.

I think this is going to get tricky as I assume you are using GUI scripting and will not know the selected state of any one of the speakers - nor will you be able to maintain details of what you have done with them as there's no guarantee that you are the only controller of them.

I just thought some more about this. Doing a RETURN at the Multiple Speaker window does nothing, but it will dismiss the modal dialog. You could do this after each speaker selection click.

It might also be an idea to do a CONTROL-W to close the Multiple Speaker window as it's left open at the moment.

That's exactly the case.

I've thought of that as well.

However, I've decided against it, so that Remote Buddy doesn't
suppress error messages that may point to other problems than "last
speaker deselected". I mostly think of "no speakers attached to
AirPort Express".
