quitting Remote Buddy performs the exact same operations -
just to a file in your preferences.
I'll look for it in my preferences and my backups-
I suppose it has extension name ".actionfactory" or
whatever the export is.
Don't worry about this too much.
The problem that I was experiencing was not serious-
I am sure that it has been tested with many actions.
It turned out that quiting RB and getting back in solved it.
My disaster occurred when I tried to solve the problem
by exporting out the Actions and then bringing them back in.
All that I meant by "useful but dangerous" is that
if you don't do a "select all" you won't save much!
"Export All as Action Pack" would be a reminder to us late night coders
that you need to use the right export command!
Converting all my scripts from mira to remote buddy had been going rather well,
I was liking the ability to run 3 simultaneous short scripts,
select different combinations of button press/release/repeat,
and control how often things repeat-
all w/o big text XML documents to keep orderly!!!
But mira never ate my work-
mostly because using a text editor may be clunky--
but they are good about always leaving a backup!
My problems were annoying and small-
1. I added some actions, and then couldn't get them to show up
in the usual "miscellaneous" place- in mapping or menu preferences.
This may have been because the actions had the same name in DVD Player
as an existing EyeTV action. I quit RB, rebooted, renamed the actions
to be different than EyeTV... I did not really solve this problem.
2. Along the way to dealing with this problem, the disaster problem developed-
I could no longer see the top of the Action Factory page-
where you select between metadata and implementation.
I had resized the action factory window alot to see more of my
more complicated scripts (the default of 3 lines just doesn't
do it for me). The number of lines for the type of applescript, etc
does seem like alot - perhaps this window could be shrunk
to allow more space to view/edit the applescript.
If I encounter them again I'll be sure to describe them in more detail-
and select-all before saving!
Thanks for the feedback.
The "export action" function is neither dangerous nor doing anything
special at all - quitting Remote Buddy performs the exact same
operations - just to a file in your preferences. I'm keeping hundreds
of actions in the Behaviour Construction Kit without a problem. And
the BCK has no real limits as to how many actions it can keep - it
uses standard NSDictionary and NSArray objects to keep track of all
actions and behaviours in it.
If you can give me more info on what problem you were experiencing, at
which occasion and what actions on your part lead to them, I'm all for
taking a look at the respective code.
Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
