sleep timer ? ;)

how about a sleep timer function?

Sounds pointless at first, but if you're using peekvid or other sites like this you'll encounter that the MacOS X sleep timer does not work for whatever reason (the browser triggers some hdd access which resets the sleep counter...)
It's just so annoying to wake up in the morning just to discover that the battery is empty once more, because of some twist in the MacOS developers' minds.

Hello Philipp,

thanks for asking.

I guess the problem with such a feature would be that it had to be
triggered manually and thus not be able to function in the same way
as OS X' built-in sleep timer. If it would function the same way, it
would have to depend on the same mechanisms OS X uses to determine
idle time and thus likely fail to function as expected for the same
reasons.

Best regards,
Felix

actually, i was thinking about a manually triggered sleep timer comparable to those you find on TVs.
(5/10/15/xx mins til shutdown)

But I guess that feature would have only a limited appeal

Hello Philipp,

oh, I think this feature should in fact *have* appeal, so I've added
it to the ToDo list.

Any News on SleepTimer ?

Hi there,

i just bought RemoteBuddy after using Sofa Control for a while.
But RemotBuddy convinced me with its really good EyeTV Support and even XBMC works 100%.

The ONLY thing I really miss from Sofa Control is the built-in sleeptimer, because i regularly use my TV to fall asleep ( BR SpaceNight anyone ? ;-) )

Felix you promised to look into integrating some kind of sleeptimer via this thread a year ago - so is it still in the works ?

Thanks for any new on this .

Bye,

Markus

Markus,

thanks for asking.

This is indeed still on my to-do-list and will eventually also become
a reality.

I take user feedback very seriously and keep track of it with great
attention. And then, if I add a feature, I always want it to be easy
to use, working out of the box, yet also refineable if needed.

But I need to prioritize strongly since even with the ~ 10 - 14 hours/
day that I spend on Remote Buddy, I can't add everything at once. A
lot of great things are coming along for Remote Buddy users, but all I
can do for now is ask for your patience while I work on the next
version.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz

Still Nothing new on SleepTimer ?

Hi Felix !

I really don't want to bother you, but after half of a year are there any news on the sleeptimer function ?

Maybe a timeframe or something.
I admit this isn't function to integrate with high priority, but is it really so hard to implement it ? If the SofaControl Crew managed to integrate this stuff long time ago , it can't be that hard ;-)

So any news on that ?

Bye,

Markus

It's not about whether this feature is easy or hard to add. It's about
getting things done right in the first place and in the right order. I
could tack on a sleep timer in virtually no time, but it'd raise
problems with new concepts in future versions that I really want to
avoid. The pre-condition to adding a sleep timer in the way I think it
should be implemented simply aren't met yet. When they are met, it
will be added.

I generally don't give any timeframes except for fixes of showstopping
bugs/problems.
