IR LEDs

I am thinking of making an IR led strip similar to the one that comes with the Wii but this would use USB for power. The candle method works great with only one candle although the candle flicker is evident in the pointing and there is a bright flame right next to the screen. Using an IR LED will not emit any or very little visible light and the flicker should be eliminated. My question is, would I be better off using multiple LED's placed at corners of the screen or would one LED be more appropriate?

Hardware - Apple® Remote

After uninstalling/quitting Remote Buddy, my Mac® no longer reacts to the Apple® Remote. (FAQ015E0241)
To enable you to use all capabilities of the IR Receiver of your Mac®, Remote Buddy is using its own driver. In contrast, all other applications with integrated Apple® Remote support usually use the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

As long as you're running Remote Buddy, Remote Buddy and its driver are responsible for turning the received button presses into actions. As soon as you quit Remote Buddy, this task is again handled by the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem.

If other applications don't use the interface to the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem correctly, this can lead to the effect that nothing happens when you press a button on your Apple® Remote. For as long as you're running Remote Buddy, issues like this are covered by Remote Buddy and it's driver and are therefore not visible to you. However, as soon as you quit Remote Buddy, the OS X Apple® Remote subsystem is back in control and any issues caused in it by other applications become visible.

Therefore Remote Buddy is neither the cause of the issue nor is it responsible for it. Instead, the cause of the issue exists independently of Remote Buddy. It's located elsewhere and can also only be solved there.

Hey Drew,

I'm in a similar situation to you. I bought a Wiimote on a whim after seeing the remote buddy demo video.

I'm in the process of testing different configurations of ir leds. So far I have tried 2 groups of 3, and 6 individuallly spaced leds. The two groups seemed to perform better, presumably because they effectively form a more intense point source.

My next step will be to trial 3 groups of 3, and then 2 groups of 4. The 9 led setup is more efficient to run from usb, so I hope that works out ok.

Will report back what I find.

Yes, candles are not the technically best solution, but easily
available everywhere ;-)

The distance of the IR LEDs is overestimated. Even when building a
sensor bar replacement for the Wii®, the exact spacing will not
matter at all, as, depending on your distance from the sensor bar,
the camera will "see" more or less close together anyway. My best
guess why the sensor bar was designed lengthy rather than a box is
that this form factor is a better fit to TV sets and is probably more
stable due to its greater weight.

For Remote Buddy, one IR LED below or above the center of your screen
would be totally sufficient. I'd place up to four there, though, to
ensure you have a brighter source. The IR sensor in the Wiimote is -
as far as I can see - not able to detect more than four spots anyway.
