Question about Wii IR source
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Ok guys, so I went out and bought a wii-mote and was building and IR sensor yesterday. I used 4 LEDs from RadioShack and powered them over USB.
In my brief testing the remote seemed to work much better with a single IR source (all 4 LEDs together). I know that two (2 groups of 2 LEDs spaced out about 12 inches) should be better because you can tell the roll of the remote on the long axis, but I found that it was much more accurate with one IR source. Granted I wasn't far from the screen (my room is not that big) and I was dead centered in front of it.
I was wondering if others have found similar results.
Also I was wondering if anyone has found a good method to eliminate shake on the mouse. It's great to use the wiimote to move the pointer, but it's hard to actually hit small stuff like close boxes, or to double click things because the mouse pointer shakes so much. Does anyone have any good tips to help this?
Thanks,
-Deeps

I'm still working on a better anti-shake algorithm.

Until then, keeping some distance from your IR source is the best way
to reduce shaking or bring it down to zero.

The closer you are to the IR source, the more sensitive will the mouse
react to your movements.

During my experiments I also learned that the pointer does
additionally stabilize when you use two IR light sources / groups of
IR LEDs.

Best regards,
Felix
