Remote Buddy not working Leopard Front Row
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi Felix,

I love your program but after just installing Leopard I guess there is no way to get working with the new Front Row yet. I like having Front Row on and controlling and rating the songs from my touch in other rooms but it seems to not be syncing up right now. Maybe you already knew this and will be fixed in a future version. I'm also having the application become unresponsive every 10 minutes or so of it showing me the song playing in iTunes. Not sure if it my problem after installing Leopard but I dont seem to be getting any crash logs for you.

Cheers,
Ste.

Hi Ste,

Front Row on Leopard no longer uses iTunes for music playback. It
plays back your music directly. Thus, if you make changes to your
iTunes library while having Front Row in the front, these will not be
reflected.

Another side effect of this is that on Leopard, if you quit Front Row,
your music will also stop abruptly. Same if you had music playing in
iTunes and enter Front Row.

This, however, is not an issue with or of Remote Buddy.

I don't have access to the final build just yet (still downloading),
but if you feel Remote Buddy becomes unresponsive, please fire up
"Activity Monitor.app", select "Remote Buddy" and choose "Analyze"
from the menu, then send me the output to info@iospirit.com or via the
contact form. I can then see what keeps it busy.

I myself have not experienced a single issue with 1.7.4 on Leopard
thus far.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realise Front Row had changed like that. Sounds like it won't be possible to have it working like it did on Tiger as I am sure you would have worked out a solution? If not I will try to get the old Front Row working because that was the killer app for me being able to rate and control the same song on the touch that was playing in Front Row and now it's gone although through no fault of yours of course.

Also about the unresponsiveness this morning I did a fresh install instead of upgrading like I did in a hurry last night and now have had no problems at all.

Regards,
Ste.

Thanks for the prompt response.

You shouldn't try to "downgrade" Front Row, as it's far deeper rooted
in the system than might appear. It would likely give you problems on
the first OS update at the latest.

Front Row doesn't have an API that would allow the same level of
control as over iTunes. You can still use the "Remote" module of the
AJAX Remote to navigate in Front Row, though - just as if you had a
"real" remote in your hands.

Depending on how you listen to your music, the full screen cover flow
mode in iTunes may be a replacement of sorts or not. Fullscreen
Coverflow, too, will not update if a playlist is modified or switched
in the background, though.

Best regards,
Felix
