actions as menu elements?
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello Felix,

for a quite long time I did not update Remote Buddy, but yesterday I saw that RB is at version 1.7.4 and found that update extremely usefull. Especially the support for iPhone an iPod touch. That's really exciting!

But I have one questing concerning menu elements and actions: Is there any easy possibility to create actions, that I could use as menu elements and have them shown up in the behavior menu of a program.
Let me explain that with EyeTV. I want to build an action for EyeTV, that shows the program info an hides it. Normally I would press <control>+I . There is an action for hiding and showing the program info. But I can only use is for the button, not for the menu.

Best regards
Karsten

Hello Karsten,

sure you can do this: just add a custom action and tick the "globally
available" checkbox. Your custom action is then available for addition
to menus.

You'll find more info on custom actions including step by step
instructions in the Remote Buddy Help in the "How do I.." and
"Reference" sections.

Hello again Felix,

it's a long time ago I posted this initial questin. Now I have an additional question to that custom actions...

I added a action in the behaviour construction kit. In the register "Metadata" I activate the point "action globally available" and I activated the point "close Remote Buddy Menu after finishing this action". Then I created in the "Behaviour factory" a scripted behaviour, added the before created action and kompiled, tested and installed the scripted behaviour.

Then I added this action to the EyeTV behaviour menu and tried it. Well, the behaviour works... But the Menu does not close. Can you reproduce this? I installed testwise Remote Buddy on another computer. And I have the same issue there. Both Computer run under Leopard with the same Version of Remote Buddy installed.

May be it is possible to add an implemented action like the action "open remote buddy menu", that closes the remote buddy menu. Is that possible? Or is it eventually still there?

I would be very pleased if you cold write me an answer.

Kind regards
Karsten
