This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
More info and a dedicated sub page will be added over the next couple
of days. I'd have loved to supply more info in the first place, but I
wanted V1.8 to be released before the Mac Live Expo in Cologne and
subsequently was working at the IOSPIRIT booth at the MLE until just
now.
Anyhow, here's the essentials:
1) You need to have at least EyeTV 2.5.1 and Remote Buddy version 1.8
installed.
2) EyeTV needs to run at the same time as Remote Buddy. This is
necessary as EyeTV contains the actual drivers and will forward all
remote control button events to Remote Buddy which in turn executes
the actions mapped to the buttons. You can't use the remote control if
you don't have EyeTV 2.5.1 (or later) running.
3) As EyeTV hardware will often work with many different remote
controls, it is not possible for either EyeTV or Remote Buddy to know
which remote control you are going to use. Thus, remote controls will
only turn up in Remote Buddy after the first press of a button since
the start of EyeTV.
4) To find out which of the buttons on your remote control are the
typical "Left / Right / Up / Down / Play-Pause / Menu" core set, enter
Remote Buddy preferences, select Mapping, then your remote control
from the middle list (remember: it only turns up there after you
pressed a button on it). You can then find the core set of buttons by
looking through the buttons listed for the remote. Clicking on the
entry of a button will show you which button the entry represents on
the real remote.
The "menu button" on the remotes are these:
TerraTec Black => button labeled "OSD"
TerraTec Gray => button labeled "Info"
EyeTV Remote => button labeled "Enter"
Pinnacle Remote (black, small) => button labeled "0" (with 2, 4, 5, 6
and 8 being the rest of the buttons)
5) By default, the buttons for the EyeTV Behaviour are all mapped to
trigger the default EyeTV action for that button (i.e. you won't see
any difference to before). The thought behind this is that EyeTV will
always behave the same in response to remote control button presses -
regardless of whether Remote Buddy is installed or not. If you want to
invoke Remote Buddy's menu while in EyeTV, please perform a long press
on the "menu button" (as detailed above). You can configure all
buttons in Remote Buddy Preferences > Mappings > EyeTV.
6) Not all EyeTV receivers are supported.
More info to follow as part of the Remote Buddy web site and news
section.
Best regards,
Felix
