iPod touch remote and suggestion for presentation interface
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi guys,

just tried out the new AJAX interface for my iPod touch: GREAT!

I have a suggestion for you, though: since this device lacks tactile feedback, and everyone who has presented something with a remote knows that you can't stare at your remote every slide you change to be sure to press the right button, I suggest you to make a WHOLE page split in two buttons: forward and backward. As of now, the general «Remote control» pages has too many buttons, and even the «quasi-dedicated» Trackpad page has two too much small buttons.
So, let's use the full power of what Jobso called «a GIANT screen» (Macworld '06).

Another thing: when I present something, I use to walk around a bit and gesticulate so much, and it is a really annoyance that the interface continuosly tilts between portrait and landscape mode. I know this has been a killer feature when browsing the Internet, but here I need STABILITY. So, (at least) an opt-out would be appreciated.

Please, let me know what do you think.

Hi Francesco,

thanks for your input.

While I don't comment on new features of future versions, I can assure
you that there will be improvements.

Regarding the tilting: that's a Mobile Safari feature a web
application has no influence on. The AJAX Remote has no use of the
tilting feature for now, so yes, I, too, wish it could turn it off,
but sadly it can't.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

thanks for your answer. It's been a pleasure to see the developer taking care of his customer's point of view so much (as far as I know, a single reply to each and every topic!)

I didn't know your «secret policy» about the future features, but I respect that, and I'm glad to see that you'll somehow improve this one.

About the tilting issue you're right: you, as a mere webpage creator has no power on the browser's behaviour.
Let's hope the Apple SDK will help you on making a real «offline» app, which would be way more customizable.

Thanks again for you time, I really appreciated that!
