Movie Library not working after wake up
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi,

I have a network share on which I have all my movies. This share is added to the movie library of Remote Buddy and works properly after a clean start of the mac mini.

When I put the mini into sleep-mode (in this specific case for more than a day) and then perform a wake-up, the option Movie Library doesn't display any movies anymore. It only contains a lot of entries called Spotlight Query. Selecting one of these options freezes the mac.

Is this a known problem of Remote Buddy? Is there a work-around available?

Thanks,

John.

Hi,

I know this problem all too well, but it's not a problem of Remote
Buddy, but rather with how OS X handles network volumes to which it
lost connection.

Here's what happens:
- you mount the network volume

- you put your computer to sleep

- the network volume connection is closed by the fileserver

- you wake your computer

- you try to use an application (here: Remote Buddy) to access files
or folders on the network volume

- OS X still thinks the network volume is connected when in fact the
connection had been closed by the server long ago

- OS X will wait and wait and wait, until a (far too long) time-out
kicks in.

- while it waits, all access to that network volume block

- if you try to use any other application that even dares to request
info from the network volume (f.ex. for the list on the left in all
Open/Save dialogs), it, too will block until OS X's timeout for the
network volume has finally come to an end.

So, yes, the problem is known, but it's not a problem specific or
related to Remote Buddy.

As Leopard provides a lot of improvements, convenience and fixes in
the network volume area, you may want to consider to switch to Leopard
if you haven't already.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

thanks for your quick response on this.

I'm already using Leopard. If there are no other workarounds available I think I have to shut down the mac after usage in stead of putting it to sleep.

Thanks,

John.
