I have not bought an iPhone yet, but this application may seal the deal. I have been toying with the idea of using a Mac Mini in the stereo rack as the hub for my whole stereo system. I have used touchscreen programmable remotes for years and alway customized them to my liking in appearance, functions, and button position.
If I do have the Mac at the center of the system, I will need the Mac to control basic functions of my TV and received such as volume, power, and a few other things. To do so I have been considering attaching a usb to serial port adapter and connecting the TV and receiver via RS232c ports. From what I understand, I'd then have to write applescipts to then send com port commands for which I could get the codes form the receiver and TV manufacturer as you would with any RS232c controller. I'd then have to map the applescript to a keyboard shortcut and I think I could map the shortcut to a button on the Remote Buddy AJAX remote Main Menu.
Is this correct? Has anyone done this yet? Can I add additional menus off of the main menu for additional TV and receiver controls? Can I add power for the TV and receiver and receiver volume on the main menu screen? Can I change the appearance and position of the buttons on the main menu? Does anyone have pictures of their customized AJAX menus? Thanks for your help.
