Removing permanently installed Actions/Behaviours / Making actions available in the Menu-Element-Library
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello,

First I have to say, I'm new to the great Remote Buddy.
I wanted to add an AppleScript-Action to an existing behaviour, Aurora to be exact, so I was just playing around with the Behaviour Construction Kit a little. My AppleScript worked fine, it did what it should, but I became a little overwhelmed by the steps to make the action available in the Remote Buddy Prefs, so I ended up having two Aurora entries in nearly any section of Remote Buddy's preferences.
I tried removing the action/behaviour from the Behaviour Construction Kit, but that didn't do it. So, how can I remove these annoying double entries?
Another question that came up for me is, how do I properly add a new action to an existing behaviour (Aurora in this case)? And I don't mean that I want to map a global action to a button, I found that while searching this website. It would be really great if I could add the action to the available Aurora actions.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Edit:

I managed to find the Behaviour in the User-Library, I should have looked there before posting, sorry. But now I encountered another problem. The actions I've created for Aurora will only show up in the new Behaviour and there they can only be mapped directly to keys (on the apple remote f.e.). I believe it worked before to drag them from the menu-elements-library (Menüelementebibliothek) to the original Aurora behaviour in the menu-settings. I already tried trashing the plist files, but that unfortunately didn't help.

FYI, my plan is to create AppleScript actions for Aurora that create alarms (today at 7, today at 7.30, ...) and sleep the computer in a predefined time (fall asleep in 30 min, fall asleep in 45 min, ...) and add them to the Aurora-menu in the menu settings of RB.
For that case it would be quite nice if it was possible to create folders in the Contextual Menus of RB, but I don't think it is, right?

Cheers,
Florian

Hi,

thanks for asking. Please find my answers below.

I tried removing the action/behaviour from the Behaviour
Construction Kit, but that didn't do it. So, how can I remove these
annoying double entries?

The actions in the BCK do not turn up anywhere else unless you make
them "global". Other than that, the only way to permanently add
Behaviours is to save your own Behaviours. Those are saved to ~/
Library/Application Support/Remote Buddy/Behaviours/ by default.

Changes you make to the contents of that directory only take effect
after a restart of Remote Buddy.

Another question that came up for me is, how do I properly add a new
action to an existing behaviour (Aurora in this case)?

1) Go to Preferences > Mapping > The App You Want To Add An Action For
(here: Aurora)

2) For the button that you want to have a custom action be executed,
click on the popup in the table then choose "Custom Actions..". You of
course can later assign that action to other buttons of your choice.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
