I'm setting up a media server for a parent who is not very computer literate. I'm testing (and likely buying Remote buddy) with an mac mini and a current version of OSX (as of May 2008).
I like the Movie library application, but wonder if there are any preferences or settings that can be set to change the behavior of the AJAX loading of the library to the iTouch. Also can I change the font size on the itouch or menu displayed to get more lines on the itouch - smaller font - maybe a seperate subject.
Here's the main problem:
I have currently 300 video_ts movie folders online (a little over a terabyte) for her movie server. There will be close to 300 movies in Frontrow and over 300 movies that are DVD burns from old classic laserdisks online. This is a large movie library to search through.
The AJAX page only loads 100 movies on the page by default. When I finally get through the first 100, there's a "NEXT 100" button, which the user can touch and the page will load another 100 entries. So to get to the last movies, that's a lot of scrolling, and I have to select "next 100" twice.
Once I'm at the last page of movies, let's say it's movie 295 out of 300, and I select the movie RB will start the movie on the mac, this is good. But because it's an AJAX app I suppose it needs to "refresh the page" or something, because that is what it's doing and the itouch will "refresh" and only bring up the first 100 movies back to the itouch. So if I wanted to watch the next movie or one near the end say movie number 280, I'd have to scroll through all the movies again on the list and hit the "load 100 more" a couple of times.
Also, if I press on any movie before pressing the "100 more" by mistake, remote buddy will launch that movie and refresh the Ajax page, meaning I'm back at page one.
It seems like it's a great product you've included for small movie libraries (under 100 movies). It would be nice if there was a way to:
1. Load all the movies on a single page.
2. Disable the "refresh" but that might be impossible if the event sent to the remote ajax page triggers a refresh, I haven't studied this.
3. Have a page displayed or created in such a way that leaves the current movie up so your in the same position.
There are some other questions, which I'll put in a seperate post after searching and working on them.
OTHER QUESTIONS
They are mostly related to configuring the itouch to easily bring up the ajax pages (maybe two pages) with the touch of one icon button that could be added to the itouch. I'd like to have Ajax running and have the ability to start the process very quickly linking to the system with all the passwords and sign on specifics hidden below a button. To make launching the Remote buddy application easy for her, in the event of a WIFI dropout. This might be something for a different board and I'll search for that info before making a more specific post.
