RemoteBuddy as IR translator only?

I am trying to run XBMC on my Mac Pro which has no built in IR receiver. I have the Keyspan USB kit and it receives presses from the Keyspan control, the Apple remote (from a macbook), and my Harmony One.

XBMC has some lovely support built in for the Apple remote - it will stay running in the background and come and go like Front Row does. However, you can't enable that mode while Remote Buddy is active. Is there a way to just use Remote Buddy's driver to make the Mac think that there's a standard Apple remote attached? I don't want any of the Remote Buddy menu features or anything. I can't use the Keyspan driver because it apparently is incompatible with Leopard.

That article seems out of date - my software does not have the same options as shown in the article.
