Eye tv or Apple Remote
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi Felix
I recently got an eye tv with a remote. I was just wondering would I be better of in your opinion using the apple remote or the eye TV remote with your app. I am actualy using a Logitech universal remote. So I was just wondering if I had any benefits in using the eye tv remote with the extra buttons. Thanks

I use both, since the Apple Remote has a very useful feature (wakes mac from sleep) and the eyetv remote has more buttons. If you have programmable remote you can just "merge" both remotes on the programmable one.

my only problem right now is that the eyetv remote is not recognized correctly...

Hi Matt,

Thanks for asking.

The built-in IR Receiver (and thus the Apple Remote) will give you a
snappier experience, whereas the EyeTV Remote will give you many more
buttons.

With a universal remote, of course, it's very easy to combine the best
of both worlds, i.e. using the Apple Remote buttons as navigation
buttons and the EyeTV remote buttons for shortcuts to some dedicated
functions.

You can also use RB's support for multiple Apple Remotes to
differentiate up to 255 x 6 buttons. A user put together a nice
tutorial for Harmony users a few months back. You should be able to
find that tutorial in the forum by searching the forum for "Harmony".

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
