Thanks for asking.
Does Remote Buddy have the ability to learn raw IR codes from
remotes which you can then map to various functions?
No, that's not supported. The built-in IR receiver of Intel Macs also
does not support this - it's limited in hardware to Apple Remote codes
and unable to receive IR codes from any other remote.
I have the Sony Bluetooth remote, and love the number of buttons I
can map, but it keeps disconnecting from my system (brand new mac
mini), and also I am unable to teach my home theater universal
remote to run Remote Buddy as it is IR.
You may be able to teach your remote the codes of one or more Apple
Remotes. Since Remote Buddy can distinguish between several Apple
Remotes (up to 255), you have more buttons available for mapping.
Search the forum for "Harmony" for a tutorial of a user who put
together an excellent tutorial on this topic in his blog.
If the BD Remote keeps disconnecting, usually either its batteries are
low or you have defined a small "disconnect after xy minutes of
inactivity" timeout in Remote Buddy's Preferences at Hardware >
Bluetooth Receiver. In the latter case, the BD Remote should reconnect
automatically as soon as you press a button, though. Please be sure
you run the latest version of Remote Buddy.
If this is not possible, could you please let me know if there are
any IR remotes you support that have a full array of keys (I see the
eyeTV remotes are useable, but it is unclear to me whether I could
just buy a remote and use it, or if I need to buy the whole eyeTV
set to get it to work),
You'd need to buy a supported eyeTV receiver to use the EyeTV Remote.
