Hello,

I am a brand new Mac owner (Mac Mini). I bought the mini for primarily HTPC use. I am using the trial of Remote Buddy and so far I like it. I have a question that many of you may already have the answer. I love the fact that I can control my DVD player software from my iPod Touch, however the only thing I can't control is my IR/X10 equipment. Does anyone know of a way to control my IR and X10 devices from the Mini and use the Remote Buddy software to control those apps? In windows I have been using Girder with the USB-UIRT and it works great. I also know that the Mini has IR built in but didn't know if that could be a repeater also. Thanks in advance.

Surely someone else is controlling A/V equipment that is out of sight using this setup. My equipment is all in a closet on a different floor than my viewing area. I need an easy way to control the IR equipment that is also in that closet such as turning the AV Receiver on/off adjusting the volume and control my X10 either through IR from my IR-543 or through a controller CM15a.

I may have found my own answer... would love to hear some feedback from the veterans here.

It looks like I could accomplish what I need using iRed paired with a IRTrans? Does anyone know if this would work with what I am trying to accomplish? Could I still use Remote Buddy to control any commands that iRed may need to send to the IRTrans?

Thanks for asking.

Remote Buddy can control other applications via many means - including 
AppleScript. As far as I know, iRed can be controlled via AppleScript. 
To what extent, however, I don't know. That really is a question for 
Robert (the author of iRed).

thanks for the reply. I am trying to create an applescript in custom behaviors but am not having any luck. Is this disabled during the trial?

Felix, I got your email but I'm still waiting for a reply. I still have my issue of calling applescript using the menu driven option of Remote Buddy as opposed to using the apple remote buttons. I also don't know why when I create behaviours in the Construction Kit They don't save after a restart and I can only have one of my behaviours active at a time. I really want to purchase Remote Buddy as it would seem to fit into what I need to complete my Home Theater but I really need to get this working.

Also I had seen some talk of a native iphone/ipod app how far off is that?

Regarding your questions:

1) To make an action available for mapping and as a menu item, you 
have to make it globally available by checking the respective checkbox 
for the respective action in the Action Factory. The actions are then 
instantly available under "Miscellaneous" - and - if you create, 
compile and install a complete Behaviour, under the name of the 
respective Behaviour. For step by step instructions on how to create 
globally available actions, please see the Help (section "How do I..") 
that comes with and is available within Remote Buddy.

2) Once you have finished putting a Behaviour together, it needs to be 
compiled, testdriven and installed before it is available in Remote 
Buddy. You can also find step-by-step instructions on this in the Help 
(section "How do I..") that comes with and is available within Remote 
Buddy.

3) If you are looking for a compact tutorial, I recommend watching the 
video tutorial available under "For developers" on this website. It 
shows all steps necessary to create and test a Behaviour in under 5 
minutes.
