Hi Dave,
thanks for asking. Please see my answers belows.
1) access any folder in any program menu. For example I'd like to
access my movie folder (external HDD) in the VLC menu. I'm tiered of
hunting through the menus to open a file!
Simply drag the folder from the Finder into the menu of your choice at
RB > Prefs > Menu. That's all it takes.
2) change audio tracks in Front Row (wachting a quicktime movie).
Anyone?
To the best of my knowledge, Front Row doesn't support this, so Remote
Buddy can't, either.
3) always open any video file with VLC and make not RB ask me all
the time whether I want to use Quicktime or VLC!
If you set VLC as the standard application for the media file types of
your choice in the Finder, VLC will always be the topmost choice.
Remote Buddy will still present you with the available options, but
all it takes you to open the file then is an extra press of the button
you already just pressed to select the file - which essentially brings
down menu navigation to performing a "double click" instead of a
"click + navigation".
4) start iTunes AND start playing a playlist with just one click
(e.g. click "play" in standard behavior)?
You can do this by adding an action that contains this AppleScript
snippet:
tell application "iTunes" to play
Last bust not least: VLC crashes if I want to close it (while
playing!) with Remote Buddy. Not If I close it by clicking "cmq+q"
or by mouseclick. So it seems to be a RB issue!
This is not a bug in or the fault of Remote Buddy. Remote Buddy sends
a standard Quit Apple Event just like f.ex. the Dock, Activity
Monitor, AppleScript or OS X when shutting down and gently asking
applications to quit. It's the standard and system conform way to ask
an app to quit. Please file a bug report with the VLC team.
Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
