Leopard, Remote Buddy and Keyspan Remote for Itunes
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Felix,
congratulations for your work.
I recently purchase a Keyspan Remote for Itunes for using it with a Leopard MacMini. After purchasing, the manufacturer let me know they are no longer developing drivers for Leopard and that they are not compatible.
I'd like to ask if I install Remote Buddy, will the Keyspan remote and receiver work in a Leopard Mini g4?
Many thanks.

Thanks for asking.

Did you get that statement directly from Keyspan? I'd be seriously
surprised if they wouldn't provide OS X drivers for Leopard for one of
their flagship IR products.

Your Keyspan Remote for iTunes should work just fine with Remote
Buddy. RB is independant of any Keyspan software.

However, since your post suggests you have problems with the hardware:
please make use of the Remote Buddy demo version (it's full featured)
before purchasing to ensure your hardware is working correctly.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz

Thanks for your reply, Felix.
Yes, this is what I got from the manufacturer. I just paste below:

"The URM15T is not compatible with Leopard . The product was mfg before Leopard was release. At the present time there are no available drivers.Due to customer demand, we are considering the support for Leopard for future, but there are no immediate plans. We apologize for any inconvenience".

I don't have hardware troubles at all. Just wanted to recycle a Leopard MacMini G4 into a Media Center with Remote Buddy and a Keyspan just purchased (on the post still).
My question here are two:
a) Is Remote Buddy able to act as a driver for Leopard and overcome hence the lack of them?
b) May I use the receiver in Leopard with Apple Remote and Remote Buddy?
c) Have you tried?

Many thanks. You have an exceptional application and an outstanding customer support.
Kind regards.

Thanks for the interesting info.

a) Is Remote Buddy able to act as a driver for Leopard and overcome
hence the lack of them?

Yes.

b) May I use the receiver in Leopard with Apple Remote and Remote
Buddy?

Yes.

Since you mention the Apple Remote: I recommend you to check out the
"How to retrofit an AppleŽ Remote and other remote controls" feature
at the bottom of the Remote Buddy Website Overview page for more
information on that topic - including RB's ability to *truely* emulate
a built-in IR receiver.

c) Have you tried?

Since the bundle isn't available in Germany, I couldn't try myself. As
the receiver in the "Remote for iTunes"-bundle appears to be identical
(even down to the USB product and vendor ID) to the one in the
"Express Remote"-bundle (which I own and have tested with
excessively), it should be fully compatible. No problems are known and
customer feedback so far has been 100% positive.

If you have any doubts left, I can only recommend to make use of the
trial version of Remote Buddy, which allows you to test the full
product for 30 days.

Best regards,
Felix Schwarz
