Latest Release No Longer Works With eHome Transceiver
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello. I have been using Remote Buddy with the same eHome Transceiver since 2007 without any problems; however, after installing the latest update, with kernel extension 1.5.5, Remote Buddy no longer recognizes the hardware. Upon reverting back to 1.5.4, it works fine again.

Is this a bug, or is my hardware no longer supported?

Thanks for asking. I'd like to take a closer look at this. Please:

1) Connect your eHome receiver to your Mac
2) Start System Profiler.app
3) Select "Save as" and save an SPX/XML file.
4) Please send the file to info (a) iospirit (*) com

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Could you tell me which datatypes you need from system_profiler, so I don't have to send you all of my personal information?

Hello again. So, I successfully hacked the Info.plist file in the kernel extension. I just changed the ids of one of the Mantra drivers to the ids matching my eHome receiver (757 1545), and it worked.

The problem is now that the code is no longer signed, so I get a warning message. I haven't tested it long enough to see if there are other effects.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for the system profile and your follow-up. I've looked
into it and in fact the vendor and product IDs of your receiver were
accidently not included in the driver's Info.plist with the latest
release. I'll silently update Remote Buddy to fix this - most likely
on Tuesday.

Until then, this may already help you: once you have the updated
kernel extension installed, simply replace your copy of Remote Buddy
with an original one again. The kernel extension in RB's bundle is
only used when you install it. After installation, the copy used by OS
X resides at /System/Library/Extensions. Replacing the Remote
Buddy.app with the original will also mean that your code signing is
ok again.

FYI, the download that's now online has the SMK receiver in it again.
Thanks for reporting the problem.
