Remote Buddy automatically chooses the correct behaviour depending on 
the applications running. It gives the front most applications 
priority, but, this is especially true for eyeTV, if it doesn't know 
the front most application, it'll also analyze the situation and 
status of the applications running in the background.

You can use AppleScript to activate a certain Behaviour 
programatically - or you can select it manually in the Remote Buddy 
menu.

However, if you press the menu button, you should see the name of the 
currently active Behaviour in its "title" line. If its EyeTV, the 
behaviour for EyeTV is fully active. The same applies to VLC.

A Behaviour is always fully active or it really isn't. So, if you 
only get part of the functionality that you usually get, this very 
likely is not caused by Remote Buddy or - to the most part - not even 
by the app you want to control, but rather by the video codec used in 
the QT movie / TV channel you want to play / watch.

Many video files - or streamed video - simple won't allow you to 
exercise the same control over playback as a video file that was 
created and encoded specifically to suit the needs of that 
application and its main focus / purpose.

Another technical detail to underpin that: Remote Buddy uses 
AppleScript for every EyeTV action it is implementing, so it is - 
said simplified - basically directly calling the functionality EyeTV 
has to offer.
