1) The reason why there is a < instead of an up-arrow is that the 
menu is visually ordered from left to right and a press on the "left" 
button will navigate "to the left". I think an up-arrow would be 
confusing here.

2) Good idea! That actually inspires me to do something else, but not 
too different ;-)
