Hello Alessandro,

I'm afraid this is a limitation of iTunes that can not be worked
around other than by simulating clicks, which, as you already noted,
is not a really very reliable or workable solution.

Your best bet is probably to submit a bugreport to Apple and ask for
this feature be added to iTunes AppleScript support ( http://bugreporter.apple.com/
).
