That was the trick! For some reason it wasn't the default behavior on
startup even though I had it checked as such... oh well. Fixed now
though.

Make sure that you "Activate" the behavior. This can be done by
pressing the "Playstation" button on the PS3 remote. If the custom
behavior doesn't appear on the Menu, you'll have to configure it on
Preferences -> Menu

Once activated, to keep it active go to Preferences -> General ->
Advanced and check the following:

"Manually activated Behaviors stay active until they are explicitly
deactivated"
