This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.

The internal Apple IR receiver can only be used with the Apple Remote
and no other IR remote. It's limited in hardware, where the IR
decoding takes place.

If your Mac has a Bluetooth Receiver, you can of course still use the
Sony PS3 BD Remote and the Wii Remote with Remote Buddy. And the PS3
remote certainly is a good choice, if you want to have lots and lots
of buttons available to you.
