Quicker way to switch apps?
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hello.

Using Remote Buddy, it takes 6-7 clicks and a good deal of navigation around the menus to switch between currently running applications. Is there a quicker way to do this? I tried to program command+tab into RB, but haven't been successful so far. Many thanks.

Hello Han Lee,

thanks for asking. You can use a custom menu to move the Application
Manager to the root level of the menu. You can then:

1) Press Menu to enter the Remote Buddy Menu
2) Keep the "Left" button pressed to go to the root level and select
the Application Manger
3) Then select the application

Or you go with your Command + Tab solution. I've just created an
Action for what you want to do. You can download it here:

CommandTab.rbactionpack.zip

(Download, Unzip, Double-click, Map to a Button of your choice)

Best regards,
Felix

I would like this functionality too, is there a way to get this file put back up? I can map a button to my mouse easily enough, but I'd like one for the remote!

I am trying out Remote Buddy and am very impressed with this cool app.

I'd really like this kind of functionality also, like a one-click app switcher. I did try making the Ctrl-Tab behavior, but it selects everything on the page or desktop as it switches.

Is there an easy way to implement one-click app switching without selecting everything on the page.

Hello Daniel,

thanks for letting me know.

Are you using the Actionpack supplied through the link or a creation
of your own? Which remote control are you using?

Selecting everything on a page or desktop usually would require
pressing Apple + A and it really shouldn't emulate those button
presses when Ctrl + Tab has been configured.

Felix

Right, I had meant to type Cmd, not Ctrl.
It was a creation of my own that I referred to in my last post.
Thanks for the download link.
When I assigned it to 'play(held)' on 'virtual mouse' mode it seems to just alternate between the two most recently used apps, rather than cycling through.

Thanks for responding.
I do like how user friendly the design is overall.

Hello Daniel,

thanks for letting me know.

The limitation with play(held) is that Apple's driver does only send
a press but no release event for it. Thus, a play(held) press only
lasts for a couple of milliseconds (as the only alternative would be:
forever). The same limitation exists for the menu button.

Any other buttons, though, should just be fine and allow you to cycle
through as many apps as you like.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

Thanks, that makes sense. I'll try it out on a non-press button.

I really appreciate your help and quick response. I've tried out a few other remote control programs but I've found Remote Buddy to be far superior in functionality.
I'm going to buy my license today :)

Thanks again,
Daniel
