Hello Filipe,

thanks for asking.

This functionality is already there. If you make use of a custom
menu, you can drag and drop any folder, file or application to any
place in the menu and get direct access to them there.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

I wanted to ask for some clarification here.

This functionality is already there. If you make use of a custom
menu, you can drag and drop any folder, file or application to any
place in the menu and get direct access to them there.

"Custom menu" refers to the list of items under a given profile on the Menu tab of the Preferences? If so, then dragging and dropping a Finder location to the profile menu gives an error message "File not in a supported image file format". Am I supposed to be dragging from "Item Library"? If so, how do I get a location added to the Item Library list?

I basically would like to browse the files of a specific folder on a network drive either from the top menu or as the first item under the Files menu.

Thanks for the great software and support.

Hello Russell,

thanks for asking.

Yes, "custom menu" refers exactly to what you define.

Regarding the error message: there's a subtle difference whether you
drag something *on* or *inbetween* items:

If you drag the folder *on* something, a rectangle will be drawn
around the entire item - and Remote Buddy will assume you want to
exchange the artwork for this entry. A folder, of course, will not
work for this.

If you drag the folder *inbetween* items, you just get a line
beginning with a circle ( o------------------ ), which shows, where
the new item will be positioned. Dropping the folder this way will
create exactly what you are looking for.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Felix

Felix,

Worked just as you described it. I noticed this difference when rearranging items on the profile menu but I think my problem was that dragging an item over to the empty space, such as one would do in iTunes to create a new playlist, would select the entire window and give me that error message.

This is a very useful feature I have wanted as long as I have been using the software but I never would have known it existed without this thread on the forum.

As always, thanks for the great support. I'm really looking forward to future versions--especially media browsing features as Front Row is not very useful.

Thanks Russell!

It actually should react differently when dragging something to the
empty space. I consider this a bug - it will be fixed with the next
release.

Best regards.

Wow. Great tip! Just what I needed! Thanks!

I think we need to put a wiki FAQ together for RB tips & tricks. I sure wouldn't have known about this feature too, if I hadn't read this thread.

I'm working on extending the FAQ now. In a first step, I've added
categories and some show/hide effects for the answers to make it more
readable. I also had started a wiki at http://wiki.iospirit.com/, but
have put it offline again for the time being as I right now lack the
time to add more initial content to get it rolling.

Best regards,
