mini won't sleep after upgrading to 10.4.10
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I recently upgraded my mini to 10.4.10 through Software Update. Immediately afterward, Remote Buddy asked to be upgraded to 1.0.5, which I did. Prior to this, the mini was able to sleep without a problem.

Since the upgrade, if Remote Buddy is running and I try and put the mini to sleep (either via the menu or energy saver), the mini wakes itself back up within a few seconds. Once I quit Remote Buddy, the mini will sleep normally.

I am using Remote Buddy with a Wii remote.

Thanks for the info.

As far as I recall, when this problem first aired, the cause was that
Apple's Bluetooth Kit would not stop the Bluetooth inquiries Remote
Buddy made at the time and wake up the machine again, as they timed out.

The latest release should contain a fix for this for sure, so I'm not
sure what the source of the problem is this time. I'll try later.
However, you'd help me a lot with the following info:

1) Is the remote control connected or disconnected while you attemp
it to sleep?

2) Does the problem also occur when RB is running, but the remote is
not connected?

3) Does the problem also occur when RB is running, but you have
Bluetooth turned off?

4) Which Mini are you using? The G4 based or the Intel based version?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Felix

Either way; both connected and disconnected the problem occurs

2) Does the problem also occur when RB is running, but the remote is
not connected?

Yes

3) Does the problem also occur when RB is running, but you have
Bluetooth turned off?

Yes. The only way to get the mini to stay asleep is to quit remote buddy :-(

4) Which Mini are you using? The G4 based or the Intel based version?

Intel Core Duo 1.66.

Thanks!

Thank you for your help, and a great product!

Thanks for the info.

Do you (or did you) also use a Bluetooth remote control with Remote
Buddy?

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix -

Here is an update on the sleep issue with my Intel Mini after upgrading to Remote Buddy 1.1:

Things have improved - I can now put the Mini to sleep manually (via the apple menu) with RB running and the Wiimote connected. I can also get the mini to sleep automatically on the timer provided I disconnect the Wiimote from the RB menu. However, the Mini will wake itself back up if it tries to sleep automatically (timer) if the Wiimote is connected.

So for now, my workaround is to simply set the hardware prefs for the Wiimote to disconnect due to inactivity 1 minute before the mini is scheduled to sleep...

Thanks for the update.

Waiting for it to go to sleep itself is something I didn't try yet.

Btw, which build of OS X 10.4.10 are you running (Apple menu > About
this Mac > *click on version number* to switch to build number)?

I'm asking because Apple has distributed OS X 10.4.10 - and then an
updated version 10.4.10 v1.1 - and didn't say too much about what
changed in the latter.

Felix
