3rd party Wiimote ir Sensor Bar located

Hi everyone,

Happy RB user here. I'm using Wiimote occasionnaly with a tea light and was searching for the ir sensor bar. Nintendo doesn't officially sell the Wii in Malaysia so I couldn't get it from them and the local Wii parallel importers don't stock the ir sensor bar separately. Online US & Europe stores had it but shipping was too expensive so I went looking for alternatives.

Just like to inform anybody in a similar situation that I've found one for a very cheap price(USD8.99). It's an online shop based in Hong Kong. Very good for Asian users as they offer free shipping.

Forgot to mention that it runs on batteries. Good for people like me who don't actually own a Wii console.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for all the info, Eugene!

That sensor bar is also available on Amazon in other countries - but
at much higher prices (about two times of the offer you quote) and
often only sold through Amazon Marketplace.

Best regards,
Felix

Re: the non-flammable solution-
I just finished building my own "sensor" bar from 4 radio shack high intensity IR LEDs (part # 276-143). It works very well as a source for the Wiimote - I just did the calibration in the preferences once and I was off and mousing!
The advantage of the DIY method is that you can choose your power source. I wanted an AC plug powered unit that I could connect to my switched outlet on my A/V receiver so that it would power off automatically when I am not using the HT setup. But you can build one that runs on USB (5V) or batteries - your choice.
Here are some good links:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Bill_Bowden/led.htm

The trick is to know the number of LEDs, their voltage drop (1.2 V) their forward current (29mA) and your power supply voltage (an 8.2VDC wall plug from an old mobile phone charger in my case). Then just use the calculator (second link) to figure out what size resistor you will need.

Hope this helps-

For those located in US. I found a battery power IR Bar for the Wii at a local GameStop store.
