Speedlight Media Center Remote Control. Compatible?

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or could hazard a guess on whether this would be compatible with Remote Buddy. It seems to suggest it's the standard MCE receiver thingy but it looks a bit different from the Philips one I have seen around.

I ask because it is on offer at play.com for £8.99 and so if I could pick one up it would be most useful and a great price.

At the moment I use a Wiimote but I would like to use IR for simple pausing so the batteries don't get drained all the time.

Any info appreciated.

Hi there,

I've had a look at it and it's not a product I know or had a chance to
test for compatibility. You'd also need to add an Apple Remote to that
receiver, as the MCE remote right now is not supported by Remote Buddy.

Thus, my suggestion is to assure yourself before purchasing that you
can return the package in case it turns out to not be compatible with
Remote Buddy's eHome 2005 support.

Also, you may look for a Keyspan Remote for iTunes or Keyspan Express
package. It's usually far cheaper than any (Apple Remote + "cheap"
external receiver package + postage&packaging for both) combination.
They usually sell for comparably little money on eBay, too.

Best regards,
Felix

Thanks for your prompt response.

I think I will order one despite the uncertainty as I can send it back within 7 days under the UK's distance selling regulations. In any case it's less than a tenner so not a big risk.

I already have a couple of Apple Remotes that have come with some of the Macs I have bought so in that respect it should end up much cheaper than the keyspan options, if it works.

With that to do simple controlling and the option of connecting my Wiimote when I want to have a bit more control this is definitely going to be a killer solution.

Will let everyone know whether this works or not. Should be here 2 or 3 day.s

Received it. Plugged in and nothing appears in Remote Buddy (ie. any additional hardware besides the Bluetooth and Virtual Receiver.)

Rebooted and still nothing.

I assume this just means it's incompatible, unless there are any easy fixes or things to try I'll get this thing winging it's way back to Play.

Thanks for the info.

Could you cut and paste the USB info from System Profiler?

This may help me with future development of that driver.

Thanks for the info!

The "USB TO PS2 Devic" does indicate that this is very custom hardware
solution, not compatible with the eHome 2005 standard, though.
