FireFox vs Safari
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I just downloaded the RB trail and have been playing with it for a few hours. I can always access my mac mini from my macbook using firefox but only after restarting everything will safari work. Is there something I need to do in Safari to get it to work correctly? Most of the time it says it can't find the server Http://macmini.local:8888/. Firefox always works fine. ????

Thanks,
john

Hello John,

the macmini.local domain name is provided through Bonjour, Apple's
zeroconf technology. If you can access it through FireFox, but not
through Safari until after a restart, chances are you tried accessing
the domain name prior to its announcement, where it could not be
resolved. As Safari does seem to do caching of negative DNS query
results, this would explain it.

Flushing the DNS cache might help. Or you could simply use the IP of
your Mac Mini and thus avoid any issues your setup may have with
Bonjour, DNS services & Co. in general.

At any rate, there's nothing on Remote Buddy's side that could either
cause or solve the problem you have. Remote Buddy serves the pages. OS
X provides and handles Bonjour.

Best regards,
Felix
