Brightness Control bug?
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Hi there! first: great software, 99%perfect! thanks!
But: I changed the standard eyeTV - behavior a
little bit and entered the screen brightness control slider. Now i am able to toggle to "more bright" / to right side, but regardless of the sliders position as soon as I press left button (less bright) the slider is away and the menu steps to one step back in menu-hirarchy.
The Volume-Controls work normaly!
Anyone any idea? Thanks!

Hi!

This sounds as if the press to the left is so long as that it jumps to
the first entry of the root level of the menu (which - with default
settings - is one level up).

Which remote control are you using?

hi,

I use the Apple-Remote on Imac alu.

The Brightness-Control works fine, when I put it in The Root-level of a personal self-created menu, where no further left-press-level-up exists.

For me, this solution works fine, nevertheless the mentioned bug remains.
The long-left-press of the button you mentioned should not be the problem, because in the same menu-level just above the brightness-control i have volume-control-slider, which works as it should.

The described menu i used is "Einfaches Profil" - "EyeTV" and into the "Kontextmenüs"-"EyeTV" I drag-and-dropped the "Bildschirmeinstellungen"-"Helligkeit von Imac" item.

Thanks for the quick answer before!

I am having a similar problem. I have the latest version of Remote Buddy but when I try to change the brightness settings, the outline around the slider is grey, not white like it is around the volume slider. I even made a new profile and put the Brightness slider right below volume in the root menu, and still no luck. I am using a Wiimote and have 10.4.10 installed on my dual G5 Power Mac. Other than this bug, I love this program!

The brightness control is dimmed if the display does not support
brightness control (only Apple displays offer this AFAIK).

I have a 20" Apple Cinema Display though, so I'm still not quite sure why this option is greyed out for me. Thanks for your help.

Is this an item you placed in a custom menu - or are you using a built-
in, dynamically generated menu profile?

It is a custom menu that I copied from one of the built-in menus. I also tried adding the Increase Display Brightness and Decrease Display Brightness menu options from the Accessibility context menu options and those don't work either.

Hmm, that's strange.

Please send me some information on your system, so I can have a look.
Here's how:

With Remote Buddy running (important), please provide me with some
diagnostic information:

1) An ioreg-dump. Create it by entering

ioreg -w0 -l >~/Desktop/ioregDump.txt

into Terminal.app (found in /Applications/Utilities). That creates an
ioreg-dump file named ioregDump.txt on your desktop.

2) A System Profile. Create it by starting System Profiler.app (found
in /Applications/Utilities) and choose "Save as.." from the "File" menu.

Please send me these two files.

Ah, one more thing (prior to sending debug info): please make sure
your Apple Display's USB and Firewire cables are plugged into a USB
and Firewire port of your Mac respectively.

I'm almost certain that you can't control brightness with just the DVI
cable connected.
