This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. I know this may be a bit premature, but when can we expect remote buddy as a native iphone app? And will it please be a free update to current RB users? Last edited: 19.06.2008 01:24:54

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Thanks for asking. All I can say is that - yes - I'm developing a native Remote Buddy client and that it's my intention to make it available for free. As with regards to the availability and it being available for free, I can only talk about my honest intentions, though, as anything else would be pure speculation. Although I'm optimistic, I can't promise or guarantee anything as, at the end of the day, it's Apple, not me, who is to make the decision of accepting/rejecting the app into their AppStore. Best regards, Felix Schwarz

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Thanks for the prompt response Felix. I'm glad to hear that development is in progress :) I can't wait to see it :) While the ajax remote is good, it's slow and tedious, has no dragging, etc. The native iphone remote will bring RB to full glory, as it was originally meant to be ;) Apple better approve it -.- Anyway, keep up the good work, thanks again for the prompt response.

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. When it comes time for Apple's approval I'd be happy to participate in a letter writing campaign on your behalf. They have to approve it if we can demonstrate a demand for it.

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Yea coffejor, definitely. I seriously doubt that there will by any problems though since RB is a quality app from a quality developer and among the best third party apps. If Apple refuses it, then not only will the wrath of RB users fall onto Apple but I suspect the rest of the community as well. Either way thanks for the support, we'll need it just in case :)

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Thanks for your support. :-) I also don't think that there'll be a problem. Yet - for the sake of completeness - I need to point out the possibility. Best regards, Felix Schwarz

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Thanks for your interest into the progress. I am working full time on the native client. It is progressing very well and I'm very much looking forward to eventually releasing it into the wild, which will be as soon as it is done. Thanks for your patience. Best regards, Felix Schwarz

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hi Felix, what about a blog to report from your developing progress? I'm so exciting about the remote buddy app on my iphone! Can't hardly wait anymore. ;-) Are you still planing on making the app available for free? I think you should at least provide it as donation ware. I would pay at least 9,99 for RB.app! Cheers Dave

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Thanks for your interest. I really appreciate it. My answer has to stay the same though (and will stay the same for all repetitions or variations of that question): The native client as well as Remote Buddy itself are under active development, development is progressing really well and the client will be released when it is ready to be released. Why is that all info I'll share for now? I'm not willing to compromise on quality, user experience or innovation. All of which takes its time to be done right. All of which I'm not ready to share with competitors prior to release day. All of which requires the freedom and flexibility to change anything at any time. Something that may be much harder once screenshots have been publicized and users have developed definitive expectations on how things have to work. For these reasons there will be no status updates, no preview screenshots and no public time table. Any and all news regarding the native client will be made available through the News and Blog pages and their respective RSS feeds / our newsletter respectively (find them on the right side of the blog/news pages). Thanks for your understanding. Best regards, Felix Schwarz

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Hi Fantastic product - I have just purchased it! Can only imagine how great the native iPhone/iPod Touch version will be. Probably not the place to put this but could I make a request for a little 'green' functionality. Would be great if the native app had 'wake on Lan' built in and automatically attempted to wake a previously controlled Mac and try again if it didn't connect first time. To go hand in hand with this, making the 'Sleep' and a new 'Sleep all' (previously controlled macs) option very prominent would be very carbon friendly

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. May I ask if the native app is still in development? I check back every week since nearly a year now and wonder if it will ever be released... I know, "no status updates", but please just confirm the app, so we donīt loose hope. :) Cheers, eike

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Forgive me Felix...for I have read the blog posting concerning the native app, appreciate the desire for quality in what you put out and your insistence on the secrecy of it's development...but this better be a mind-blowing, game-changing, unbelievable application when it comes out. It has been in development WELL over a year. Since that time I have watched competitor after competitor come out with their own apps. Update them again and again and still nothing for Remote Buddy. I got into Remote Buddy at the beginning, before it was even 1.0, and I have always given you credit through that time at being WAY ahead of the other apps with this software. Even during the initial growing pains the development and design was great and showed it's future promise. As a freelance consultant Remote Buddy was a staple app I had every customer I setup buy it and taught them how to use it I loved it so much. But I got to tell you, the no native app aspect was a deal breaker for me. The AJAX remote just never did it for me. It was inspired under the days of "web apps only", but once the native apps started coming out he felt horribly long in the tooth. Not to mention, as remotes start getting lost and when Apple stopped shipping them with systems altogether, having a remote app on your iPhone or iPod Touch became essential. It was such a deal breaker I stopped using Remote Buddy altogether a bit back now. Saddens me too. I miss it. Once in a while I fire it back up and sit there fumbling around with the sluggish AJAX remote and again give up, quit the program and shelve it again to collect dust until this promise of a native app one day comes true. It has long since dropped from my list of must have apps on your new Mac for customer's as well. I can't fully stand behind the AJAX remote. So both my own use and my client's has moved on to a competitor. And damn I hate that. My mother has an old saying, "Shit or get off the pot" I really think you need to do this with this native app Felix....sorry

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information. Erick, my experience has been that pre-annoucning anything (including the announcement of a native app) is generally a bad idea. I've learned that lesson and do not pre-announce anything anymore. All pre- announcing does do raising expectations and if things take longer than expected by either me or customers, it ends up being frustrating for both. Regardless of whether any timeframes were announced or not announced at all (like in this case). Please don't get me wrong. I really appreciate your post. I just can't really comment on it without sharing detailed information I haven't shared to this point. And since all I get from sharing more information ahead of time seems to be negative reactions, I no longer do it. All I can do is to ask for your patience. AJAX Remote's native incarnation isn't one of the simple keystroke-emulators that you can find lots of on the App Store. This is a highly complex and integrated solution. That takes time to both implement and get right. Especially the interface. But server internals to no lesser degree. Some new interface features do require complete rewrites of core parts of Remote Buddy. This, too, consumes literally tons of time. It, too, needs to be done right. Regarding AJAX Remote: Have you tried a recent release and its integrated gesture remote mode? It's usable in a new fullscreen mode. It can be added to the home screen. And it makes use of the Safari multitouch support in recent iPhone OS releases to achieve great responsiveness. It should give you a near instant response just like you can see in the most recent demo video. If it doesn't, please consider to go through the "Reliability check" of the "Network Guide" to verify your network doesn't loose packets and thus introduce unnecessary delays. You can find that guide here: http://www.iospirit.com/products/remotebuddy/guides/network/ Best regards, Felix Schwarz
