Support for Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 ?
View

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
I just saw this device from Logitech:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/remotes/universal_remotes/devices/5732&cl=us,en?WT.ac=mb|5909||hp&creative=14305|Harmony_Adapter#

It's basicly a IR->Blootooth adaptor for PlayStation 3.

Since Remote Buddy support the PS3 bluetooth remote, will Remote Buddy add support for the new device so users of universal IR remotes can use it?

I'm currently using the PS3 bluetooth remote with my Mac Mini but it would be REALLY nice if I could use my universal remote with my mac mini instead.

Pleaeeeese :)

Thanks for asking. There's already a FAQ on this topic. Please find it
reproduced below.

-- FAQ --

Q: Is hardware product XY supported or do you plan to support it?
(FAQ015E0228)

A: A full list of supported hardware can be found on the Remote Buddy
website athttp://www.iospirit.com/remotebuddy/supportedremotecontrols/.
We're not able to provide you with information on hardware not listed
there, as we don't have such info ourselves.

If you already own the hardware product in question, you can of course
download the free 30 day and otherwise unlimited trial version of
Remote Buddy from our website and test it with your hardware.

Please understand that we can't talk about future product versions and
thus also not about which hardware could possibly be supported as well
with future product versions.

Well that didn't answer my question... I just wanted to know if support for the device is planned (for the future) since you allready support the PS3 bluetooth remote.

But I belive that the Logitech device is 100% compatible with the PS3 bluetooth remote so Remote Buddy may allready support it?

I'm sorry, but I do think the FAQ entry says all I can say about it.

Well that didn't answer my question... I just wanted to know if
support for the device is planned (for the future) since you
allready support the PS3 bluetooth remote.

I can't talk about future versions, and thus also not about whether or
not a certain piece of hardware will be supported in the future or
whether support for it is planned in the future or not. New versions
and new features are announced the day they are available to the
general public.

But I belive that the Logitech device is 100% compatible with the
PS3 bluetooth remote so Remote Buddy may allready support it?

It's a possibility, but as a matter of fact I simply don't know: I
don't own the adapter yet and thus can't make any statements as to
whether it is supported or not.

I just ordered one of these. It should be here on Tuesday so I'll report back as to whether or not it works.

So the Logitech Harmony PS3 adapter came today and so far I'm not having much luck. When trying to pair with Remote Buddy the adapter is recognized but the process hangs at "Pairing successful. Establishing connection…"

If I stop the process here and go back into Remote Buddy I do see the remote listed as a paired bluetooth device but it doesn't seem to receive any commands.

Also, it does appear that Remote Buddy simply recognizes the Logitech device as a Sony BD Remote.

I'm not sure what the issue might be but if anyone has any suggestions I'd be more than happy to try and let you know what happens.

Any news regarding this?

The adaptor is now also available in Europe and it would be a great feature boost for Remote Buddy if it support this device :D

I have a box sitting on the table in front of me, labeled "Logitech
Harmony Adapter for Playstation 3" ;-)

Regardless, I can't and won't promise anything.

That's fantastic - thanks :)

I updated it yesterday and it works fine... I have a small issue though.

The adaptor disconnects after a while and must reestablish the connection when used again.
My PS3 bloothooth remote does not do this.
It's not a critical issue but still annoing.

Is this a issue with the adaptor?

I also observe a slight input lag when using the adaptor compared to using the original remote, but I assume this is normal because of the extra IR->BT "translation" step.

Thanks again.

I also noticed the delay (=> a short paragraph on this is part of the Release Notes).

The adaptor seems to go in power-save mode when you don't use it for a while. But it should reconnect on the next button press. Remote Buddy has no influence on this. The same code is used for the adaptor and the BD remote. The only thing that changes since the last release is the code that identifies the hardware. It's now more tolerant and also accepts the Logitech adaptor.

Can anyone confirm that this works well now that the adapter and RemoteBuddy support have been out for a while?
I currently use an IR extender to receive, forward and send the IR signal through cords to my Mac mini. It works, most of the time, but it isn't pretty. So if the Harmony adapter does it better, I will definitely go for one of those.
