can't seem to find behaviours and also....

loving this product but seem to be missing the behaviours that are listed on this page

https://secure.iospirit.com/index.php?mode=view&obj_type=infogroup&obj_id=24&o_infogroup_objcode=infogroup-23&o1_infogroup_objcode=html-109&sid=9849808G5b380b3ed503f3b5&clshop_id=4

maybe i'm missing something....

i have tried the update but apparently i'm up to date and no new stuff is available.......

also....i have many external drives that store my media.....none of it is on my laptop....as such, my main need is the file menu after which i navigate to 'volumes' then to the drives...then select the file and then chose form a long menu of apps to open with when i only need chroma and nice player on the list

is there any way to just have the 'volumes' available on my main menu so that i just navigat and open...and , secondly , can i reduce the number of apps 'to open with' ????

any help to any of the above would be greatly appreciated

thanks :o)

The Behaviours are integrated into Remote Buddy's application bundle
and only loaded when the respectively controlled application is
installed. For performance reasons, that check is performed only
during Remote Buddy's launch. If you install an application while
Remote Buddy is already running, you need to quit Remote Buddy and
start it again, so the new application can be detected.

At Prefs > Menu, you can drag and drop any filesystem object
(including volumes) from the Finder into a custom menu structure of
your own to add an filesystem browser entry starting at the respective
location you.

The list of applications is not compiled by Remote Buddy. It is
dynamically compiled and provided to Remote Buddy by OS X Launch
Services on a file-by-file basis.

thanks for your prompt response

i don't have internet at home but have come to the library to send this mail

in the interim i managed to find the behaviours

there are still some problems i'm having

1) while holding the right button on my apple remote to f/forward in nice player it continues waaay past the point at which i release , rendering the search function useless

2) i'm trying to have 2 different remote buddy behaviours to be accessed with the same button....one short press of the apple remote 'menu' button to bring up the remote buddy contextual menu (related to whichever app i'm using) and one long press to bring up the main menu structure

when i map these both hardwired to remote , the contextual menu works with the short press....but.... pressing and holding the menu button brings up front row which i have not listed anywhere in the mapping behaviours

3) i would like to program some custom actions to work...e.g when starting awaken's sleep timer it brings up the menu but you need to press 'return' to confirm...i need to progrm this keystroke without having to squint and try to navigate with the remote mouse

the same with vlc...when searching it sometimes brings up an annoying dialogue box for errors.....this needs to be clicked to acknowledeged and then clicked in another error to 'not display this message again'

i'm not asking you to solve this necessarily...what i am asking is if there is a more comprehensive manual available to download...the quick step-guide is sorely lacking when it comes to one of the most confusing and potentially destructive elements of programming this app

i'm happy to dive in as long as there are clearer guidelines.....am i missing something ???

thanks again for your help....there are definitely things that i wish were incorporated from [removed] but on the whole this has greater potential....it is close to being ideal for me...it would just be a shame to have all these customisation options un-usable for me

thoughts ???? :o)

1) Remote Buddy is sending a "skip forward" via AppleScript to
NicePlayer repeatedly for the length of the button press. That's all
it can do. It doesn't have any influence on how fast NicePlayer
executes that command nor can it know whether NicePlayer is building
up a backlog of such commands, both of which are likely to create the
problem for you here.

2) All "Open Remote Buddy menu" actions can be overridden by other
Behaviours's mapping table. If you execute a long press of the menu
button and Front Row comes up, that action is assigned to "Menu
(held)" in the respective Behaviour's mapping table. Solution: go to
Prefs > Mapping > "Behaviour in question" and change the mapping of
said button from the Front Row-action to "-".

3) In the mapping area, select "Custom Actions" to create actions of
your own from building blocks like keystrokes, delays, applescript,
mouse wheel events, etc. It's really easy.

Regarding dialogs popping up in Awaken, VLC, etc.: these dialogs are
not created or caused by Remote Buddy. If they get in your way and can
only be closed with mouse interaction, you might want to contact the
respective app authors about the respective problem(s), so they can
either add an option or direct you to an existing option that provides
control over this.

Alternatively, if you have AppleScript knowledge, the use of UI
scripting may also lead you to a solution.

hi...thanks again

the error dialogs are in no way remotebuddys fault , i just need to know how to program a simple behaviour to deal with it

regarding the searching in niceplayer...i wonder what '[removed]' does that allows it to work ....hmmmm

with awaken...again the problem is not with remote buddy...neither is it with awaken...i just need to be able to program commands to do it

i really am happy to do this but as i mentioned , i'm finding many things on screen that aren't represented in the manual and so i'm worried to screw things up....it's a shame because i can't make sense out of the very things that make this app stand out from the others

I'll have a look at the NicePlayer Behaviour again as I find the time.
Usually there are several approaches to controlling an app. The
easiest - and somewhat fragile - one is control via emulated
keystrokes. The most robust and best integrated - but usually harder
one - is control via AppleScript, which is what Remote Buddy is using
here. I'll have to check and see what gives better results. For the
sake of completeness: what kind of media are you seeing this with?

Where are you stuck? Where exactly are you having trouble achieving
what you want to do?

What is missing in Remote Buddy's help?

Right now, I'm not aware of any gaps in the documentation. If there
are, I of course have great interest in improving documentation in
that area.
