Is it possible to make navigating the menu faster? It's a little slow.

Hello Anders,

I could not finish off all ideas I had for improving the menu in time
for preview 6. So, yes, this is definately an area where new and
fresh ideas will be seen in preview 7 as well :-)

However, I'd be interested which hardware you're on (I know the menu
is not too fast on my iBook G3 for instance ;-) and what element it
is that makes you perceive the menu as slow.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi!

First of all, great product!

I also think that the navigation of the menus is a little slow and in particular during its appearance on the screen (but it's a personal impression). One less important latency would be an appreciable comfort.

I've a iMac G5 (isight), I do'nt think that that is really one question of power but rather of feeling.

A proposal: the menu could be more transparent, like the "command+tab" fonction, with the possibility (just an option) of having the name of the menus larger.

I have a mac mini duo, so i should't be the hardware.
I agree with Vincent. It feels like there is delay after i press the button on the remote and for the "selection" to move.

Moreover if i have browse to for example many recordings under eyetv 2, i liked it to behave simular to frontrow, so the browsing speed up, if i hold in the navigation button.

Hi Vincent,

thanks for the input.

The menus should appear pretty fast on screen as long as the Core
Image effect for "bluring" the menu into view is turned off. The new,
wider menus are often too much for Core Image as it is now.

I'll of course keep an eye on the menu performance and
configurability as development continues. Always keep in mind all
releases to date are still previews :-)

Best regards,
Felix

Hello Anders,

thanks for providing that detail. I previously thought the problem
related to drawing speed.

That delay is caused by the emulation of the "plus (held)" and "minus
(held)" button codes. Whenever Remote Buddy receives a plus and minus
button down event, it starts a timer, which "fires" after the
fraction of a second, by then making it a "held" button code. Now, if
you release the button before the timer fires, Remote Buddy
recognizes this as normal plus and minus button events, if you
release it only after the timer fired, it is recognized as plus
(held) and minus (held) button presses.

So, in consequence, you'll see that Remote Buddy does not instantly
react to the button press, but that the desired action is instantly
executed upon the release of that button, which is probably what
makes you perceive the menu as slow.

If you don't need the "plus hold" and "minus hold" buttons, you can
turn off their emulation in the preferences (Remotes pane > select
Apple Remote > select Options tab > deselect the checkbox) for
instant reaction.

I'll see what can be done for preview 7, though (including the
speedup you mention).

Best regards,
Felix
