Griffin PowerMate Support

I've tried using remote buddy with a griffin PowerMate but can't get it to control frontrow. I think this is due to the PowerMate drivers.

I only want to use my powermate with remote buddy, it would be great if Remote Buddy worked with my PowerMate without the PowerMate drivers.

Hello Lee,

thanks for asking.

Remote Buddy does only support the AirClick remote control right now.
There is no support for the PowerMate at this point.

You may be able to get limited access to Remote Buddy by making the
PowerMate application to issue the hotkeys configured in the HotKey
Remote, though.

Best regards,
Felix

Thanks for your response Felix,

I can get the powermate controlling remote buddy with keystrokes. The part that I have problems with is getting remote buddy to pass the keystrokes as remote key presses when I'm in front row.

What seems to be happening is that when in frontrow remote buddy doesn't seem to pick up what is being sent by the PowerMate, these just seem to be picked up by front row as actual key presses (eg. ctrl-opt-shift-8) and so frontrow just exits.

Anyway, I hope you might be able to get support for the PowerMate in remote buddy in the future, because I think that apart from offering more functionality, remote buddy is just a higher quality piece of software than the griffin drivers and I'd much rather only have remote buddy installed.

Thanks for your help,

Lee

Thanks for the info!

The problem here, however, is not Remote Buddy, but Front Row.

Front Row does listen to key presses on the HID level, even before
hot keys are sorted out. So, what will happen is that Front Row will
react to any keypresses no matter whether they are hotkeys or not -
which then leads to the observed result. :-(

There's little I can do about this, I fear (except writing a driver
for the PowerMate - it'll have to wait, though, until I have finished
some other driver projects I'm working on).

Best regards,
Felix
