Disable Default Actions

Hi Felix,

I am a little frustrated with Remote Buddy right now:

I'm using the Plex player functions for a Harmony remote (I know you don't support Harmony remotes...), which uses 10 virtual Apple remotes to provide functionality for all the buttons. I spent hours unprogramming all the default actions that Remote Buddy assigns to each remote, for each action, and then painstakingly programmed each remote to act how I want for each action and behavior. Now I bumped the "Restore Defaults" button and all 10 remotes are back to defaults...

Is there any way to keep Remote Buddy from assigning default behaviors to all the remotes? I am looking forward to about 5 hours of reprogramming the virtual remotes, a good majority of that time is to be spent unprogramming the default behaviors.

Don't get me wrong, when Remote Buddy is programmed and running it makes control of my Mac Mini HTPC nearly seamless, but with the prospect of 5 hours of reprogamming ahead of me, I am tempted to abandon it...

Any and all insight is appreciated.

~Jordan

Hi Jordan,

the "Reset to Defaults" should actually only reset the mapping table to defaults that you're currently working on - not all mapping tables.

Regarding using the special Harmony profile for / mode of Plex, there's an easy way to just pass through all button presses without setting up multiple remotes. It should take about a minute or two to configure:

(Q: I'd like to use the Harmony remote mode of Plex.)

Hope that helps.

Hi Felix,

Thank you for the rapid and informative response; sorry that my response is so long in coming. First, I apologize if the tone of my last post was negative, I was quite disappointed when I posted. I shouldn't have jumped to the conclusion that the "Restore to Defaults" button was the cause of all the menus being reset; I should know that correlation doesn't mean there is direct causation (post hoc ergo propter hoc).

Thank you for the suggestion about the quick Plex method. I guess that I should have better explained myself in my original post: I used the "Plex Player" behavior in the Logitech database as a method to address all the keys on my Harmony 880; I actually don't use Plex on my Mini HPTC. The result of the "Plex Player" behavior is 10 virtual Apple remotes, with button presses corresponding to each of the 40+ buttons on my Harmony.

I completely understand why you don't directly support the Harmony remotes; Logitech's code database for the Apple remote leaves something to be desired. I often have problems with the Harmony remote registering multiple button presses, no button presses, or delayed button presses.

I guess that my original question still stands: is there a way to quickly un-map default behaviors when adding multiple virtual remotes? With 10 virtual remotes, each mapped to around six different key presses, for 18 different behaviors... it takes significant time to un-map, then re-map all the key presses.

Thanks again for the great product and for the equally great support.
